  • Mussman on wrong side of legislation May 15, 2011 8:02 PM
Recently, the Illinois House approved good legislation, HB 161, that would help eliminate fraud in Illinois’ Link card (food stamp) program. How did our state representative vote on this important anti-fraud measure? Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) voted “no” on this common sense reform, and so did her party boss and biggest campaign funding source, Illinois House speaker Michael Madigan.

  • See how it’s done, Washington? May 2, 2011 12:00 AM
Yesterday I attended a town-hall meeting sponsored by Michelle Mussman, our new state rep. While the skies opened up and the rain poured this Michelle (a Democrat) teamed up with our state senator, John Millner, and spoke to 30 friends and neighbors at the Roselle Town Hall. Together they brought us up to date on current legislation, shared mutual frustrations with the state’s financial woes and worked together to make everyone in the room a little smarter.

  • Mussman hearing what voters saying Apr 24, 2011 12:00 AM
Thank you for the recent article about state Rep. Mussman’s proposal to reduce legislator pay. I ran for state representative in the 55th District (against state Rep. Ramey) and can vouch for Mussman’s statement that some voters expressed concern about legislator pay.

Sidebar of popular Quinn one-liners uttered throughout the campaign, early days in office.

  • NW suburban legislators need to support special needs Dec 19, 2010 8:34 AM
During the recent campaign in the 56th House District, issues took a back seat to attack mail, in convincing people to vote for either candidate. If the winner would have stopped long enough to listen, good ideas to help families with special needs children would have come out of it.

  • Mussman claims victory in 56th House race Nov 3, 2010 5:35 PM
Democrat Michelle Mussman claimed victory Wednesday in the 56th District state House race after Republican rival Ryan Higgins called to concede what was one of the suburbs’ most narrowly decided contests. After a long night and early morning during which Mussman consistently clung a slim lead over Higgins, final unofficial results posted Wednesday afternoon declared her the winner.

  • Mussman holds narrow lead for 56th House Nov 3, 2010 5:37 AM
Democrat Michelle Mussman was holding tight to a narrow lead early Wednesday morning in her bid to keep the 56th District state House seat in Democratic hands. In one of the closest races of Election Day, Mussman had 13,688 votes, or 51.2 percent of the total, to Republican rival Ryan Higgins' 13,031 with 76 of 78 precincts reporting at 2:15 a.m. when counting stopped in Cook County. Officials will resume tallying ballots sometime after 10 a.m.

  • Mussman the victim of silly tactic Oct 31, 2010 8:33 AM
Michelle Mussman did not vote on issues such as reducing the Stroger sales tax increase. She did not vote on building new libraries and health care centers. She did not vote for public safety and first responders.

  • Electing Mussman a good place to begin Oct 31, 2010 8:32 AM
It is my understanding that the premise our Constitution was based on, when our Founding Fathers risked their lives for this country, was that government should be “for the people, and by the people.”

  • 14 state races pass $1 million fundraising mark Oct 29, 2010 7:17 PM
It just keeps rolling in. In a seven-day span, the number of state legislative races crossing the $1 million fundraising threshold has increased from 10 to 14.

  • 10 legislative races where spending hit $1 million Oct 27, 2010 10:46 AM
With a week to go until the Nov. 2 election, 10 legislative races three of them in the suburbs have passed the $1 million mark in terms of fundraising dollars, putting them among the most expensive campaigns in Illinois history.

  • Is it only about election, or something more? Oct 25, 2010 12:54 PM
After reading Ryan Higgins’ resume on his website, I had the feeling that the only things missing were a robe, staff, sandals and a body of water to walk on.

  • If you can’t tell truth now, when will you? Oct 25, 2010 12:53 PM
Has the state of politics gotten to the point of he said she said, of manipulating the facts so far that we fool the public into believing a candidate is truthful and honest?

  • Parties spending big on 56th District race Oct 21, 2010 12:12 AM
56th District state House hopefuls Michelle Mussman and Ryan Higgins agree the state needs stricter limits on how much a candidate can receive from political parties and leadership. But recently filed campaign finance records show both have taken significant amounts from their respective parties.

  • Voters: Don't be fooled by mailer against Mussman Oct 18, 2010 9:14 AM
I understand political candidates want the voters to know the difference between them and their opponent.

  • Higgins will be good for business, jobs Oct 18, 2010 9:01 AM
As a small-business owner in Schaumburg, I understand that policies coming out of Springfield can help to make or break our state's economy.

  • Higgins for House 56 Oct 18, 2010 9:01 AM
Republican Ryan Higgins and Democrat Michelle Mussman both support aggressive job creation, fiscal restraint and oppose tax increases; both would cut legislative pay; both believe solutions in Springfield must be bipartisan.
