    West Dundee officials invited a honeybee expert to explain and dispel myths about the insects this week, but it wasn't enough to convince some trustees that the village should become honeybee friendly.Trustees Daniel Wilbrandt and Michelle Kembitzky said they cannot support a proposal to legalize honeybee keeping.

  • Woman seriously hurt in McHenry motorized scooter accident Jul 6, 2013 10:39 PM
    A 51-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries Saturday after a McHenry accident involving a motorized scooter, officials said. Emergency crews were dispatched at 8:21 p.m. to the 5800 block of Fieldstone Trail and found the victim lying on the roadside.

    A $50,000 grant is helping McHenry County College figure out where the information literacy gaps are for high school students in the county. The money, awarded by the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarians Program, will help MCC gather research about how well students locate, evaluate and effectively use information — skills that have become increasingly important in the digital age when so much is available online.

    Nobody suspected that Cary native Paul Wertico would grow up to become an international musician who would tour with the Pat Metheny Group from 1983 to 2001, win a kazillion music awards and become an assistant professor of jazz at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Not bad for a guy who had to teach himself to play the drums and never earned a college degree.
