Omo Tseumah took a calculated gamble. But it paid off handsomely for the Huntley senior in her return engagement with Lyons Township sophomore Emma Haugen. Last year at the girls Class 3A state track and field meet, Haugen defeated Tseumah for the championship in the high jump. Tseumah made a bold move as the two dueled once again on Saturday at Eastern Illinois University. "I decided to skip 5-(feet)-5," Tseumah said. The Marquette-bound senior then made her three following heights at 5-6, 5-7 and 5-8.

Westminster Christian strikes early, moves onMay 8, 2013 12:00 AM
Postseason performances sometimes require extra motivation. Or courage. If you didn't know that Westminster Christian midfielder Liz Meschewski played on a strained left hamstring Wednesday afternoon, you wouldn't have thought otherwise. But the junior, who somehow aggravated it in practice earlier this week, played regardless and delivered a gutty performance that will be hard to forget. Her 2 goals and 1 assist in an 8-minute span in the first half aided No. 3 Westminster Christian's 3-2 Class 1A regional semifinal girls soccer win over No. 2 Harvest Christian.

St. Edward gets No. 200 for Brieger, wins tournament Apr 13, 2013 12:00 AM
St. Edward girls soccer coach Tim Brieger tried to convince his team not to dump the water cooler on him Saturday morning. The players didn't care and tried anyway. But Brieger was able to avoid the water and celebrate his and the program's 200th victory, a 3-0 win over Harvest Christian at the Green Wave Invitational at Greg True Field. "It goes to the success of the program," Brieger said. "If you look at it, you're averaging more than 10 wins a season. For a single A school that in the early years was playing the St. Charles, the Larkins and the Elgins, to even be able to get it this quick is kind of nice."

Career win No. 200 will have to wait another day for St. Edward girls soccer coach Tim Brieger. The only coach in Green Wave girls soccer history needed just 2 wins on Friday to reach the milestone but after a scoreless tie against Streamwood and a 3-0 win over Genoa-Kingston in the Green Wave Invitational at Greg True Field, Brieger found himself stuck on 199. There's a chance for Brieger to earn the milestone at some point Saturday, but one person who was proud to prevent it from happening was Brieger's good friend, Streamwood coach Matt Polovin.
