Westminster 2nd, Harvest 5th at NAC tourney Feb 9, 2013 12:00 AM
Westminster Christian boys basketball coach Bruce Firchau couldn’t fault his team’s effort, but his Warriors simply had no answer for Makur Puou. Mooseheart’s 6-foot-10 junior was a beast, scoring 32 points and grabbing 9 rebounds to lead the Ramblers past Westminster 55-31 Saturday to win the Northeastern Athletic Conference tournament hosted by Rockford Christian Life. Colin Brandon scored 14 points for Westminster (16-11), which saw its 9-game winning streak snapped.

The quest for Redbird Arena has officially begun for the Westminster Christian girls basketball team and after a fast-paced, 60-21 regional semifinal win over No. 4 seed Harvest Christian to begin postseason play Tuesday night, it looks as if the Warriors want to be the quickest of any team in Class 1A to make it downstate. Westminster Christian motivated for postseason Feb 2, 2013 12:00 AM
Talk about being motivated. If you don’t think the Westminster Christian girls basketball team isn’t geared up for the upcoming postseason, then you probably don’t think a Harbaugh is going to win the Super Bowl today. When Seton Academy’s Brittany Mitchell buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give her team a 45-42 win over Westminster in the 2012 sectional final at Willows Academy, the Warriors immediately started thinking about this season. And now all the pieces would appear to be in place for Westminster to make another deep run into the postseason, and the Warriors don’t mince their words — they want to play at Redbird Arena in the Class 1A Final Four on Feb. 22.
