    Hanover Township is hosting a wellness clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Victory Centre, 1101 W. Bartlett Road in Bartlett. A Hanover Township nurse will be performing screenings and answering questions in the lower level community room. Screenings include blood glucose, hemoglobin, blood pressure and heart rate.

  • New restrooms coming to some Cook County forest preserves Nov 5, 2013 4:36 PM
    Installation has begun on the first of 10 new permanent toilet buildings for the Forest Preserves of Cook County. The restroom at the Bremen Grove Forest Preserve in south suburban Oak Forest is expected to open in mid-November. The remaining nine facilities will be installed in spring 2014.

    Hanover Township’s Employment Services is partnering with DeVry University to offer a job boot camp webinar at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. Residents can log on and participate in an online workshop to help sharpen job hunting skills and prepare individuals to compete in the current employment market.

    Residents of Barrington and Hanover townships may not be aware that they’re also served by the Kane County-based Ecker Center for Mental Health, which addresses the needs of low-income adults. It’s that Cook County portion of the center’s service area that will host its annual, holiday-themed fundraiser next month.

  • Elgin church will give coffee for cans Oct 3, 2013 5:18 PM
    The “Coffee for Cans” food drive takes place 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Elgin Bible Church, 1580 E. Chicago St. The goal is to fill a semitrailer with canned goods that will be donated to Hanover Township’s food pantry, said church Pastor Rev. Timothy Beam. The event is part of the church’s annual charitable drive, but it’s the first that involves the larger community. “Our goal in this thing is to engage the community to help itself. I don’t want this to be about Elgin Bible Church at all," he said.

     
  • Hanover Township installs fifth heritage marker Sep 27, 2013 12:11 PM
    Hanover Township dedicated a fifth heritage marker at a historical site in the township this week. The new sign was installed Wednesday at Villa Olivia, a golf course and ski facility at 1401 W. Lake Street in Bartlett, to commemorate the Leatherman farm that once existed on the property.

     
  • Hanover Township Food Pantry hosts Oktoberfest fundraiser Sep 24, 2013 4:24 PM
    The Hanover Township Food Pantry is hosting an Oktoberfest fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Bartlett Fire Barn, 218 S. Main St. in Bartlett. There will be raffles and German food throughout the event and live German music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

     
  • Hanover Township takes over a Streamwood park Sep 18, 2013 11:26 AM
    Lacy Park, located at 735 Stowel Ave. in Streamwood, has a new owner. At a meeting Tuesday night, the Hanover Township board of trustees voted to accept transfer of the park from the Streamwood Park District. “The addition of this property will be beneficial for the township’s youth activities while still serving the neighborhood,” said Howard K. Krick, a Hanover Township trustee.

    The Northwest Suburban Republican Family Picnic will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Busse Woods Forest Preserve, Grove 27, in Elk Grove Village. Tickets are $10 per family if purchased in advance online.

    Hanover Township, Cook County Commissioner Timothy Schneider and Victory Centre of Bartlett will sponsor the sixth annual “Just for the Health of It” community health and wellness expo from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Hanover Township distributes school backpacks Aug 21, 2013 2:52 PM
    Hanover Township distributed more than 1,000 backpacks to needy families last week as part of its effort to help kids get off to a good start in the new school year. The township partnered with state Rep. Fred Crespo, Cook County Commissioner Timothy Schneider, AT&T, Communities That Care, Backpack Buddies and the Streamwood Kiwanis Club in the effort.
