One round later, the Broncos standout duo fell in three sets to Bloomington's Ricky Zamudio-Nathan Cavanaugh at Buffalo Grove late Friday afternoon, ending their tournament run. Hampshire’s Bram steps down May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
When Ken Bram came into the Hampshire softball program seven years ago he admits he knew little about softball. "I played baseball all my life but when I started here I hadn't watched one inning of a softball game," said Bram, who was an assistant that first year and the Whip-Purs' head coach the past six seasons. Bram announced earlier this month that this would be his last season coaching, and Tuesday's 13-4 loss to Burlington Central in the Class 3A regional semifinal at Central marked the end of his tenure in the Hampshire dugout.

Burlington Central comes back to beat Hampshire May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
Burlington Central softball coach Cray Allen did not want his Rockets to be "that team." "I did not want to be that story that got out to all the rest of the teams by 6:30," Allen said. "We didn't want to be that team." But until the bottom of the fifth inning on Rocket Hill Tuesday, it looked like Twitter and Facebook might be lighting up with some upset news. The No. 8 Rockets righted the ship in time, though, scoring 9 runs in their final two at-bats to beat Hampshire 13-4 in one semifinal of the Class 3A Burlington Central regional.

Elgin snags 1st sectional title since 1988 May 19, 2012 12:00 AM
Elgin's Eric Chai and Sakda Kethdy were momentarily distracted during their third-place match on Saturday at the IHSA Elgin boys tennis sectional. The duo couldn't help but cheer as teammate Mikel Canovas won his first singles title by pulling off an upset of South Elgin's Andre Norasith in 3 sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-2). Chai and Kethdy quickly refocused and scored a 3-set victory over Jacobs' Kingsley Bernardo and Kristian Bernardo (7-5, 2-6, 7-5). The victories sent Elgin to its first sectional team title since 1988 on its own court with the Maroons (21 points) just edging out defending sectional champion South Elgin (20).
