  • Sycamore beats Hampshire in bottom of 7th May 20, 2013 12:00 AM
It was appropriate that Hampshire's regional semifinal softball game against Sycamore came down to the last pitch Monday. The Whip-Purs and Spartans had battled back and forth for six innings before two dramatic turns in the seventh decided it. Hampshire rallied for 4 runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 8-7, only to watch the host Spartans score the winning run with two outs in the bottom half. Taylor Jones' single drove in the 2 runs to give No. 4 seed Sycamore the walk off 9-8 victory and a semifinal matchup against top-seeded Burlington Central today at 4:30 p.m.

Omo Tseumah took a calculated gamble. But it paid off handsomely for the Huntley senior in her return engagement with Lyons Township sophomore Emma Haugen. Last year at the girls Class 3A state track and field meet, Haugen defeated Tseumah for the championship in the high jump. Tseumah made a bold move as the two dueled once again on Saturday at Eastern Illinois University. "I decided to skip 5-(feet)-5," Tseumah said. The Marquette-bound senior then made her three following heights at 5-6, 5-7 and 5-8.

"That's when I really knew that this is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life," Heck said.
