    Gurnee Park District plans to expand its fitness portfolio by purchasing a Gold’s Gym building near the Tri-State Tollway for $9.1 million, officials announced Friday. The tentative deal would allow the agency to add an indoor swimming pool, more group exercise space and more recreational opportunities, officials said.

    A milestone involving the flood prone Gurnee Grade School was reached Tuesday bringing a sense of relief to various entities that have worked for years to solve the problem. The Lake County Board unaimously authorized the purchase of the Gurnee Grade School and surrounding property for $2.76 million, clearing the way for demolition of the old school just west of the Des Plaines River.

Board members, at a meeting Tuesday evening, will consider approving the expenditure of about $37,500 as the park district's share in a three-way deal to acquire and develop the parcel where flood-prone Gurnee Grade School has stood for 58 years.
