Demolition plan for flood-prone Gurnee Grade School gets a financial boost May 13, 2013 12:00 AM
Lake County officials on Tuesday will vote to authorize $750,000 for the demolition, site restoration and project management for the Gurnee Grade School. The money is from a grant from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

Nationally known school security expert Kenneth Trump was scheduled to examine buildings at Woodland Elementary District 50 on Monday and Tuesday. Gurnee Elementary District 56's new school in Wadsworth remains on target for a January debut, but the effort won't be as simple as opening the doors to students and teachers. Superintendent John Hutton says the creation of new bus routes and other logistics are part of the equation before Prairie Trail School opens off Wadsworth Road.

Gurnee Elementary District 56 plans to start distributing personal tablet computers to all students next month, and Superintendent John Hutton says being among the trailblazers with such an initiative has risks. "Being a trailblazer, we do not have the benefit of learning from the mistakes of others," Hutton said. "We have done our homework and have looked at this hypothetically from every angle possible."

Zion man charged after Gurnee standoff Oct 19, 2012 12:00 AM
A Zion man broke into a Gurnee home early Friday morning and opened fire on the people inside, then held police at bay for several hours before surrendering, authorities said. Kendrick Augillard, 34, of the 4200 block of Barberry Lane, taken into custody more than three hours after he stormed into a home in the 4400 block of Raven Court and used a handgun to shoot at three people, Gurnee Police Chief Kevin Woodside said.

Although every culture has its own myths, some of the best known come from ancient Greece,” said Nathan Breen, professor of English at the College of Lake County.

Gurnee Elementary District 56's administrative operations have moved from a flood-prone building to a new structure. Superintendent John Hutton said District 56 started using the building on Gurnee's east side this week. The 6,500-square-foot structure is adjacent to Spaulding School.

Gurnee Park District expects to own Gurnee Grade School land near Des Plaines River Jul 13, 2012 12:00 AM
Gurnee Park District board members may approve a deal that would lead to ownership of five acres near the Des Plaines River after a school is demolished on the site next year. Board members, at a meeting Tuesday evening, will consider approving the expenditure of about $37,500 as the park district's share in a three-way deal to acquire and develop the parcel where flood-prone Gurnee Grade School has stood for 58 years.
