Built near the Des Plaines River in 1954, sandbagging there became a familiar sight.“Quite honestly, it’s been a pain,” said John Hutton superintendent of Gurnee Elementary District 56. Officials determined that buying the property and demolishing the building, which begins Monday, was the best solution.
