After losing to Grant by 19.5 points last weekend at the North Suburban Conference meet, the Libertyville wrestling team was ready to get some revenge Saturday at their own Class 3A regional. The visiting Bulldogs only trailed the Wildcats by 7.5 points heading into the final round, but playing “catch up” the rest of the way was not a winning formula as Libertyville put away its constant nemesis by a final score of 214.5 to 192. In the process, the Wildcats won their 27th regional championship in school history and they advanced to the team sectional Feb. 25 against McHenry regional champion Barrington at a site to be determined.

  • Highland Park edges Libertyville at Bradley Center Feb 8, 2014 12:00 AM
For Matt Reed and the rest of Libertyville’s boys basketball team, the chance to play on an NBA basketball court was not to be taken lightly. So the Wildcats were savoring their chance to play in the Bradley Center on Saturday afternoon, home to the Milwaukee Bucks. Reed in particular had his sights set on attempting an NBA-range 3-pointer. He managed to hit a couple of them and finished with a game-high 12 points. The dream ended there, however, as Highland Park got past Libertyville 41-40 in nonconference play.

  • Nifty finish lifts Grayslake North to regional win Feb 8, 2014 12:00 AM
Grayslake North’s girls bowling team had been in pursuit of a nice, round number all season long — reaching 1,000 in a game as a team. The Knights picked a nice time to attain that goal, bettering the mark by 29 pins in posting 1,029 in their final game on Saturday. It was more than enough for Grayslake North to take home the Round Lake regional championship with a 6-game total of 5,620 at Lakes Bowl in Round Lake. Warren earned the runner-up spot (5,556) as Antioch (5,338) and Zion-Benton (5,008) and Grayslake North all advanced to the Zion-Benton sectional, to be held next Saturday at Sunset Bowl in Waukegan. Sarah Littleton of Grayslake North finished as the top Individual with a 1,266.
