Artificial turf will be installed at football fields at Glenbard South and East this summer, ready for the start of the new school year in August. Those are the two final schools to get new turf since Glenbard High School District 87 started a turf replacement program at Glenbard North in 2009, followed by Memorial Field at Glenbard West in 2010.

Baseball/Scouting DuPage County’s Class 3A/4A sectionals May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
Neuqua Valley is scorching hot and could make a run like the one that saw the Wildcats finish third at Class 4A state in 2008. Hinsdale South is a No. 2 seed but hasn't had a lengthy postseason since it made the super sectionals in 2004. In Class 3A Glenbard South is trying to turn a strong end to the regular season into a sectional title at home.

Zhang, Naperville North lead the way May 19, 2012 12:00 AM
Saturday's singles finals match at the Naperville North sectional was a contest between two seniors, four-time state qualifiers, who are viewed by their coaches as the ideal high school athletes and team members. Gordon Zhang of Naperville North defeated Matt Hirsh of Glenbard West 6-4, 6-0 in the finals to win the sectional singles championship.

The Wheaton United girls lacrosse team made a little history recently.Wheaton went 5-0 in DuPage-Upstate Eight Conference play to win the programs first league title in its seven-year existence. Wheaton scored a 10-9 conference win in overtime against St. Charles and edged Neuqua Valley (10-8) in another league tilt. Those were big victories for us, said Wheaton United coach Charles Solomon. There have always been tough teams in our conference and to be able to beat Neuqua, which is always a very solid team, for the first time in our programs history was a huge step for United lacrosse.

Naperville North senior Billy Suta finished off high school gymnastics days in fine fashion at Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort, advancing to Saturdays IHSA boys gymnastics individual championships in four events and placing second on still rings and high bar with a 9.4 on each event.

Before the season there was plenty of doubt regarding Wheaton co-ops chances to advance to state and compete for a state title. On Friday at Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort, there was no doubt that Wheaton co-op is the best team in the state.

Close, competitive softball games have been few and far between for Glenbard South lately. A crosstown trip to Glenbard West was a welcome change. The No. 9 Raiders ran their win streak to 11 straight games with a 7-4 win on Friday afternoon at Memorial Park.

More momentum for WW South at Lake Park May 10, 2012 12:00 AM
Wheaton Warrenville South won its second DuPage Valley Conference title last week, and the Tigers had no letdown in the Class 3A Lake Park sectional on Thursday. Wheaton South won four events including a jaw-dropping victory in the 3,200 relay (9:06.25) in cruising to its second consecutive sectional title with 101 points at Lake Park East campus in Roselle.

Book it: Glenbard West solves Downers North May 7, 2012 12:00 AM
Most teams have found hitting Downers Grove North pitching as hard as advanced calculus. Six straight Trojans shutouts are proof enough. Glenbard West kept it simple. We looked for the first good pitch we saw, said Glenbard Wests Meghan Johnson, and we hit it. Johnson did, her two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning giving the Hilltoppers a dramatic 6-5 win over No. 8 Downers Grove North on Monday at Glen Ellyns Memorial Park.
