  The logjam at the top of the DuPage Valley Conference baseball standings may not reflect it, but Naperville Central's starting to assert itself. The Redhawks made it two straight over Glenbard North with Saturday's 8-1 victory in Carol Stream, erasing a two-game deficit and creating a three-way tie atop the DVC standings.

  Naperville Central's baseball team couldn't have asked for a cleaner game on Friday. And the Redhawks couldn't have asked for a better time to unleash it on Glenbard North. Making up instant ground in the chase for the DuPage Valley Conference title, Naperville Central performed in all phases of a 10-0 victory over the Panthers in Carol Stream.

  Even on a cold Thursday afternoon, it's never too early to think of the conference meet. The Naperville Central boys tennis team swept host Glenbard North 7-0, winning all of the matches in straight sets and continuing to make the progress needed to remain a contender for the DuPage Valley Conference title next month.

  It was the perfect call from Juliet Tassi, and Keegan Hayes couldn't have thrown the pitch any better. Everything seems to be breaking Naperville Central's way these days. With the tying run at third base and two out in the bottom of the seventh, Hayes froze Glenbard North's Stephanie Campos with a full-count changeup, and the unbeaten and No. 1 Redhawks held on to beat the No. 4 Panthers 2-1 on Monday in Carol Stream.

  To win the Upstate Eight Valley Conference baseball title, you have to get through Neuqua Valley. That’s exactly what Lake Park did on Saturday. Behind standout pitching performances from Christian Taugner and Mark Pall, the Lancers (11-2, 7-1) swept a key doubleheader against the Wildcats (9-5, 6-2) in Naperville. The three-game series concludes Tuesday in Roselle.

  Wheaton posts state’s top score Apr 19, 2013 12:00 AM
  The Wheaton co-op boys gymnastics team made a statement on Friday night in Lombard. Wheaton cruised to victory in the DuPage Valley Conference meet at Glenbard East and in doing show posted the top team score in the state, flirting with a 160 before settling with an impressive 159.25. “It shows how good we are and how good we can get and we’re still nowhere close to where we want to be right now,” Wheaton junior Ethan Sansone said. “We’re going to keep working in the gym and we want our final product to be ideal.”

• Glenbard North steals the show at Schaumburg Apr 13, 2013 12:00 AM
  Glenbard North made quite a statement at the Mike Rebeck Invitational at Schaumburg on Saturday. The Panthers won 11 events in cruising to the title in the nine-team field with 183 points. Rockton Hononegah took a distant second with 91 points, with host Schaumburg (86 points) nipping St. Ignatius (85 points) for third and Whitney Young (83.5) taking fifth. "It's a team sport, and we got it done on both the field and track," said Glenbard North coach Gary Heilers. "I think our kids have that itch that they want to win and they go out and compete. It's great to see them feeding off each other."
  

   

• Sansone, Heller lead the way in Wheaton co-op victory Apr 13, 2013 12:00 AM
  The Wheaton co-op boys gymnastics has had a great deal of success this season. It hasn't necessarily come easily, though, as Wheaton has had to overcome its share adversity throughout the spring. The was the case Saturday's in the 14-team Donaldson Invitational at Wheaton Warrenville South. Despite being without leading all-arounder David MacDonald and key specialist Connor Ritchie, Wheaton was able to hold off Glenbrook North 148.675 to 147.525 for the title. Junior Ethan Sansone led the team by taking third in the all-around with a 51.9.
  

   

• Carmel cleans up at Schaumburg Apr 13, 2013 12:00 AM
  It was all Carmel on Saturday at the Schaumburg Tennis Invite. Dy dominating the finals at both singles and doubles, the Corsairs produced a clean sweep to capture the team title by 15.5 points over runner-up Glenbard North (13.5) and an eight-team field.
  

   

• Police: False threat about gunman caused lockdowns Apr 12, 2013 12:00 AM
  A false threat of a man with a gun headed to Glenbard North High School led to three schools in Carol Stream and Glendale Heights being placed on soft lockdown Friday morning, authorities said. Carol Stream police received an anonymous call about 7:15 a.m. saying a man with a firearm was en route to Glenbard North at 990 Kuhn Road. The threat was determined to be false, but the high school, as well as Americana Intermediate School and Glenside Junior High in Glendale Heights, went into soft lockdown mode.
