Local officials were told this week, however, that their grants have been suspended. "And we don't know if more (suspensions) are forthcoming," said Laurie Metanchuk, spokesman for the Kane COunty Forest Preserve District.

    Damage to Island Park in Geneva may be more extensive than park district officials estimated, parks director Sheavoun Lambillotte said Monday afternoon. It appears Thursday's torrents of river water washed away much of the dirt-related work done last summer while the park was closed during reconstruction of the north bridge. Meanwhile, North Aurora is asking residents to submit reports of any damage they suffered, to be turned in to Kane County for its application for federal aid.

    A judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the family of a Naperville man who drowned in August 2011 trying to save his girlfriend's child from the boil created by the Geneva Dam on the Fox River. The attorney for William Suchy, brother of the late Randy Suchy, promised an appeal.
