    Geneva didn’t start the Class 4A third-place game Saturday night at Redbird Arena in Normal like it wanted to, but the Vikings sure finished that way. And that goes for their season, too. Geneva fell behind by 12 points in the opening quarter, rallied but never could catch Marian Catholic in a 45-34 loss. The Vikings (26-7) finished fourth in the state for the second time in six years.

    There was no masking the resolve with which the Rolling Meadows girls basketball team played with Friday. Especially senior Alexis Glasgow. Playing for the first time with a custom made mask protecting her nose, which she broke in the second quarter of Monday's supersectional win, Glasgow scored a game-high 18 points and hit 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs downed Geneva, 51-43, in a Class 4A state semifinal at Redbird Arena.

    For the fifth time since 2008, the Mid-Suburban League East will be represented in the final four of the Class 4A girls basketball state finals at Illinois State’s Redbird Arena. Rolling Meadows, led by second-year coach Ryan Kirkorsky, has become the first MSL team in 38 years to make repeat visits to the semifinals of the tourney which began in 1977. The Mustangs (28-4) face Geneva (26-5) in Friday’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal followed by Marian Catholic vs. Whitney Young in the second semifinal.

    It’s 115 miles from Geneva High School to Redbird Arena in Normal, a long road but nothing compared to the journey the Vikings have taken to get there. From a pair of season-ending injuries to Sidney Santos to another to Michaela Loebel to coming out of the Addison Trail sectional as the No. 5 seed, all of those obstacles just made Monday’s 60-41 victory over Rockford Boylan in the Class 4A Judson supersectional that much sweeter.
