    Volunteers on Thursday helped sort a bounty of donated food that will replenish the sparse shelves at the Fremont Township food pantry. “They feel good about it and so do we,” said Diana O’Kelly, township supervisor. Fremont received about 4,300 pounds as its portion of that collected by letter carriers in a national food drive.

    The tradition of family dairying in Lake County ended recently as the last milking cow at the Diebold Farm in Fremont Township was sold. Fourth generation farmer George Diebold will carry on other operations. "It's still a full time job but it's part-time from what I was doing," he said.

    The trial of a Mundelein-area teacher accused of molesting a student in 2010 was again delayed in Lake County court Monday. Nicole Jacobsen, now 42, remains free on $50,000 bail after allegedly molesting a student at West Oak Middle School in Mundelein. The delay was requested to give authorities time to schedule a sex offender evaluation.

    A Lake County sheriff's deputy was injured Thursday night after his squad car was rear-ended by another vehicle, authorities said. The accident occurred near Route 83 and Winchester Road in an unincorporated area near Mundelein, according to Lake County Sgt. Sara Balmes.

    Twenty-one students from Carl Sandburg Middle School spent an afternoon shopping in Target on Route 60 in Mundelein to help a needy family from Fremont Township. The school’s Community Service Club raised $333 through bake sales and other events to help the children.

     
  • Mundelein police, restaurant help 42 families in need Nov 26, 2013 4:25 PM
    The Mundelein Police Department partnered with Elly’s Pancake House and Fremont Township on Tuesday to provide Thanksgiving meals to 42 families in the community. Elly’s donated 76 turkeys which were delivered Tuesday morning from the police department to the families in need. The Mundelein After School Coalition and the Fremont Township girl scouts provided side dishes.
