    Blackberry Farm will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War with a weekend-long event Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16-17. Civil War Days will be a full-scale re-enactment on the historic grounds of Blackberry Farm, featuring simulated battles between Union and Confederate soldiers. Guest speakers and interpreters will stage numerous demonstrations of 1800s-era war life.

  • Three DuPage-area park districts receive state construction grants Jul 8, 2014 1:58 PM
    Three area park districts — Naperville, West Chicago and Fox Valley — will receive a total of $7 million in state grant money for construction projects, officials said. Naperville Park District will receive $2.5 million of that total for a new activity center — the maximum amount possible through the state’s Park and Recreation Construction grants program. The West Chicago Park District also is receiving $2.5 million and the Fox Valley Park District is getting $2 million.
