It was the culmination of 12 weeks of hard work, waking up early, eating healthy and making correct choices — and worth every bit of the pain. So said 25-year-old Michael White of West Dundee on Thursday after losing a whopping 84 pounds, or 26.3 percent of his body weight, to win the Daily Herald's 2012 Fittest Loser Challenge. She’s learned her fitness lessons well Apr 30, 2012 12:00 AM
When I look back at the past few months, little went as I expected. Would I have asked for a torn knee ligament? Not hardly. But I learned how committed I am to rebooting my life when I had to work out four times week with an injury instead of quitting. The injury meant I had to place an even greater emphasis on good eating to compensate for the lack of cardiovascular workouts. I learned more about what I eat and why than Id ever anticipated.

With trainer’s help, reluctant muscles cooperating Apr 23, 2012 12:00 AM
Knowing what Im going to be able to do during any given workout is like hitting a moving target. All trainers need to be flexible in their plans with their clients, but trainer George Gersch was certainly handed a challenge when they gave me over to him! Every time I show up for a workout, George begins by asking how I feel that day. We go from there. If I dont respond with enough details he starts targeting the body parts hes concerned with back, knee, hip, etc. Then he formulates a plan on the spot based on my pain levels.
