    Neuqua Valley is scorching hot and could make a run like the one that saw the Wildcats finish third at Class 4A state in 2008. Hinsdale South is a No. 2 seed but hasn't had a lengthy postseason since it made the super sectionals in 2004. In Class 3A Glenbard South is trying to turn a strong end to the regular season into a sectional title at home.

    Nicole Kappelman and Stephanie Tobin probably arent the first names on opposing scouting reports. Unlike more heralded teammates, neither are committed to Division I schools. They have enjoyed fair high school careers, not always near the top of their respective lineups. Both sure have blossomed as seniors.

    Downers North pitcher David Wilk struck out six batters, allowed 5 hits and went all 8 innings to defeat the host Hilltoppers in West Suburban Silver play. He threw 66 of his 107 pitches for strikes, and at the plate Wilk batted cleanup and went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

     
  • Mundelein musters up another winning result Apr 25, 2012 12:00 AM
    The Mundelein boys gymnastics team could not have asked for a much better effort than it put together Wednesday night at the Independent Conference meet. The Mustangs scored a season-high 144.97 points in the six-team meet at Stevenson to roll to their second straight conference championship by a comfortable margin over runner-up Lake Park with 140.35 points. The host Patriots placed third with a solid 135.95 score to easily outdistance Glenbard South (123.8) in fourth. Fenton (118.15) and Libertyville (107.9) rounded out the field.
