The days of handling old photographs and archives with care are over for patrons at the Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District in Hampshire. The library recently uploaded three digital albums to Illinois Digital Archives. But district officials need patrons to help build the library's digital collection. As such, the library is holding a digital donation day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

The Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library, 109 S. State St., is hosting a Digital Donation Day at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. They are asking the public to bring in items of local (Pingree, Burlington, Hampshire, etc.) historical value.

Because the Ella Johnson Memorial Library in Hampshire has outgrown its digs, officials are applying for a state grant that would help them build a new library. But whether the district gets the grant or not, officials likely will turn to taxpayers for help — in the form of a referendum. The grant would cover only 35 percent of the project that has a preliminary estimate of between $10 million and $11 million, library board President Barbara Brust said.

Dundee Twp. Library sets levy slightly higher Nov 9, 2010 12:00 AM
Dundee Township Public Library will ask for slightly more money from taxpayers next year. This year, Dundee Township Library District residents paid 13.1 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to help fund library services. That’s based on a levy of $3.17 million levy.
