"Property values are already declining," Moylan said. "This bill offers some relief.”

    A Cook County jury deliberated for about an hour before convicting Edwin Paniagua of murdering Jean Louis Wattecamps of Mount Prospect. “I think the jury saw things as they were,” Wattecamps’ sister, Marie Schutt, said after hearing the verdict Tuesday. “It’s still a sad day for all of us.”

    An assistant Cook County medical examiner on Friday described the wounds prosecutors say a pair of would-be robbers inflicted upon a 52-year-old Mount Prospect man as the murder trial of one of the defendants entered its second day. Edwin Paniagua, 19, is charged with first-degree murder in the July 2010 stabbing death of Jean Louis Wattecamps, a baggage handler for American Eagle who prosecutors say met his attackers for the first time at his apartment complex swimming pool mere hours before his death.

    A Chicago woman who witnessed the 2010 stabbing of a Mount Prospect man testified Thursday as prosecutors presented their case against Edwin Paniagua, 19, charged with killing Jean Louis Wattecamps hours after they met at his apartment complex swimming pool. Prosecutors say robbery motivated Paniagua and co-defendant Marko Guardiola to kill Wattecamps, 52, a man described by prosecutors as “generous to a fault.”

    Since it formed in 1889, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution has been on a mission to locate, record, and identify with a special bronze marker the grave sites of brave men and women who battled for independence during the Revolutionary War. That mission brought members of the society to Elk Grove Cemetery on Sunday, where they dedicated markers to two Revolutionary war figures, Aaron Miner and Eli Skinner, who are buried there.

    Organizers of the Illinois Sons of the American Revolution plan to install a historical marker Sunday at an Elk Grove Village cemetery recognizing two Revolutionary War figures buried there. It’s the group’s first such historical marker installation that launches a statewide project to post markers at cemeteries where Revolutionary War figures are buried.
