Renovating the building would have been too costly, since parts of it aren't up to local codes, officials said. “It just became apparent that it would be too expensive to convert,” district spokeswoman Betsy Boswell said. “It had a lot of issues ... I don't think there was ever much chance that we would have reused the building.”
