    Elgin Community College will reach out to military veterans Tuesday at the second annual Veterans' Summit Job and Resource Fair to give them the opportunity to meet with employers and service providers.     Four Elgin arts organizations that received money from the city last year through service agreements are being recommended for grant awards since those contracts were eliminated. The awards will be substantially lower than most of the groups got last year. The Elgin Symphony Orchestra, for one, will have to make do with $7,000 instead of $90,080.

Angelo picked up career victory No. 500 Saturday afternoon when the Spartans drilled Morton 12-1 in six innings. ECC won the second game 4-3 to improve their coachs career record to 501-314, a healthy winning percentage of .614.

    The Elgin Community College baseball team was within six outs of securing the 500th career victory for coach Bill Angelo Friday, but the bullpen couldnt protect a 2-run lead against one of the better hitting junior college teams the country. Kankakee Community College, which entered the game batting .385 as a team, was held to 3 runs through 7 strong innings by ECC freshman starting pitcher Bobby Thorson, a Kaneland graduate. However, the Cavaliers pounced on the ECC bullpen for 5 runs in the top of the eighth inning and added an insurance run in the ninth en route to a 9-6 nonconference victory in Elgin.
