  • Little pirates visit Dundee Library Dec 27, 2014 4:54 PM
    Three 6-year-olds aspiring to be pirates learned valuable sailing skills and popular pirate jargon during a special Pirate Crew program at the Dundee Library on Saturday. Led by their librarian captain Kristen Mohr, students learned how to read the night sky using the North Star to sail their ships. They learned how to predict the weather at sea by the setting sun and learned the phrase, “Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.”

    Meet Joanne Zienty, 2014 winner of the Soon to Be Famous Illinois Author Contest, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Dundee Library. Registration is required. Zienty’s book, “The Things We Save,” was selected after 20 librarians judged 103 entries from throughout the state. It is an emotional, haunting family saga that captured the sights and sounds of a working-class South Side Chicago neighborhood. The book’s main character returns home after a long absence to help her estranged father clean out her recently deceased grandmother’s home.
