  • Parisi steps down at Dundee-Crown May 24, 2012 12:00 AM
Dundee-Crown baseball coach Tommy Parisi resigned from that position Wednesday after one season on the job, citing the need to spend more time on his continuing education. Parisi, who will remain a physical education teacher at the school, told his players of the decision following Dundee-Crown's 12-2, five-inning loss to top seed Crystal Lake South in a semifinal of the Class 4A Huntley regional.

  • Crystal Lake S. makes quick work of Dundee-Crown May 23, 2012 12:00 AM
Dundee-Crown baseball coach Tommy Parisi knew top-seeded Crystal Lake South had been a dominant force in every area all season long. But giving the Gators, who lead the Fox Valey area with a team batting average of .337, extra outs with their kind of offensive firepower, would hurt D-C real bad. The second inning of the Gators' 12-2 Class 4A Huntley regional semifinal win in five innings exemplified just that.

  • Energized Elk Grove handles Dundee-Crown May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
No one can say the battery for Elk Grove's softball team wasn't charged up to start the IHSA state tournament on Tuesday. Senior pitcher Dani Goranson (4-for-4, 2 RBI) and her classmate and catcher Devan Parkison (3-for-3, 3 RBI, walk) each missed the cycle by one extra base hit as the No. 2-seeded Grenadiers posted a 12-0 five-inning victory over No. 15 Dundee-Crown in their own Class 4A regional. The Grens (27-8) advanced to Saturday's 11 a.m. championship game against the winner of today's 4:30 p.m. semifinal between No. 10 Schaumburg (17-14) and No. 6 Elgin (20-11).

  • Dundee-Crown survives Rockford Jefferson May 21, 2012 12:00 AM
Dundee-Crown's Mike Hazelhurst was 0-for-2 with 2 strikeouts going into his seventh-inning plate appearance against Rockford Jefferson pitcher Jalen Wimberly Monday. Wimberly was throwing a 6-hitter and D-C had stranded 9 baserunners to that point. And knowing that D-C's lack of run production had been a season-long story, you got the idea that either the Chargers had to make a bold move with speedy Garrett Ryan at second and one out. D-C went with the bold move and it paid off. After Hazelhurst lined a pitch over third to left field, a bobble by the Jefferson left fielder allowed Chargers' coach Tommy Parisi to boldly wave Ryan home. The aggressive baserunning proved beneficial as the throw was cutoff by Wimberly near the mound and Ryan slid into home as the winning run in walk-off fashion for the 2-1 win in the play-in game of the Class 4A Huntley regional.
