  • Baseball/Scouting DuPage County’s Class 3A/4A sectionals May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
Neuqua Valley is scorching hot and could make a run like the one that saw the Wildcats finish third at Class 4A state in 2008. Hinsdale South is a No. 2 seed but hasn't had a lengthy postseason since it made the super sectionals in 2004. In Class 3A Glenbard South is trying to turn a strong end to the regular season into a sectional title at home.

  • Book it: Glenbard West solves Downers North May 7, 2012 12:00 AM
Most teams have found hitting Downers Grove North pitching as hard as advanced calculus. Six straight Trojans shutouts are proof enough. Glenbard West kept it simple. We looked for the first good pitch we saw, said Glenbard Wests Meghan Johnson, and we hit it. Johnson did, her two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning giving the Hilltoppers a dramatic 6-5 win over No. 8 Downers Grove North on Monday at Glen Ellyns Memorial Park.

Benet’s Panko comes through in clutch Apr 24, 2012 12:00 AM
Marissa Panko might get overlooked among Benets big boppers, who have accounted for 29 home runs this season. The little sophomore sure is money in the clutch, though. Pankos RBI single just over the shortstops glove scored the go-ahead run, the No. 2 Redwings rallying for 4 runs with two outs in the sixth inning to beat No. 12 Downers Grove North 6-3 on Tuesday in Lisle for their eighth straight win.

  • McGuire meeting heightens Benet vs. DGN appeal Apr 23, 2012 12:00 AM
Most games, Maeve McGuire is used to seeing her parents decked out in Benet black, red and white. Today could be an exception to that rule. McGuires No. 2 Redwings host No. 12 Downers Grove North this afternoon. It is just another nonconference game for Benet, but not in the McGuire household. Maeves younger sister Rowan is a sophomore outfielder for the Trojans. I think my parents are dreading this because one of us has to lose, Maeve said. I think theyre going to be wearing neutral colors.
