    Des Plaines is planning about $400,000 in improvements at Apache Park and the surrounding neighborhood on the southeast side of town. The goal of plan is to improve neighborhood well-being and safety in an area experiencing gang activity and lack of property upkeep. “I think it’s really going to change the whole atmosphere in the park and ... make it a destination,” said 5th Ward Alderman Jim Brookman.

    Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan came to the suburbs Tuesday to bring attention to common financial scams targeting consumers throughout the state. “There are many people we can help. There are many other people we cannot,” Madigan said during an appearance in Des Plaines. “We prefer to prevent consumer fraud from happening in the first place.”

Skibbe was assistant finance director for the village of Buffalo Grove for the past six years, and before that, accounting manager for the Des Plaines Park District for three years. She began her new job for the park district May 1.
