    For the first time in 20 years, an incumbent DuPage County Forest Preserve president is not seeking re-election and the vacancy is drawing interest from at least half of the district’s six commissioners. Mary Lou Wehrli of Naperville on Thursday became the second candidate to announce plans to run for the district’s presidency in the March 18 Republican primary to replace the retiring D. “Dewey” Pierotti Jr.

    As part of an ongoing effort to cut costs, the DuPage Election Commission has approved a plan to eliminate 71 polling places countywide. By scaling back the total number of polling places to 262, the agency that organizes and executes all of the elections in DuPage is expected to save taxpayers more than $1 million over the next four years.

He came to that conclusion after thinking about retirement and discussing the topic with his wife “for quite some time.”

The Mundelein-area Republican said she'll finish her two-year county term and let voters choose her successor. Letting voters elect her successor is "the fairest thing," she said. She promised not to accept a salary for the remainder of her county and forest preserve district board service.

His decision came Monday, days after the recount didn't go his way. "I've been advised it will cost me approximately $10,000 to proceed to the next step,"Getz wrote to Scheflow in his letter of concession.
