Elk Grove Village could see its revenue drop by nearly $900,000 next year if Cook County passes a sales tax increase, Mayor Craig Johnson is warning the Cook County Board. County Commissioner and Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schneider told the Daily Herald Editorial Board Monday he also has heard from leaders in Arlington Heights, Hanover Park, South Barrington and Schaumburg opposing a proposed penny-per-dollar sales tax increase.

Republican Chuck Bartels will be the next representative for the Lake County Board's 10th District. Bartels, of Mundelein, defeated Democrat Mike Jennings to win a 4-year term in Tuesday's election. The 10th District includes parts of Mundelein, Round Lake Park, Wauconda, Hawthorn Woods and Long Grove, as well as nearby unincorporated areas.
Republicans Jung, Rein unseat Yensen in McHenry Board Dist. 5

Incumbent John Jung and fellow Republican challenger Michael Rein secured two seats on the McHenry County Board for District 5, according to unofficial results. With all precincts reporting, unofficial vote totals show Jung garnered 5,617 votes, Rein received 4,955 votes, and incumbent Democrat Paula Yensen lost her seat with 4,308 votes.
Kojzarek coasts to victory in Kane District 19

Kurt Kojzarek garnered 61 percent of the vote to win a 4-year term representing the Kane County Board's 19th District. Kojzarek, a Republican, defeated Democrat Hidayat Khan in a rematch from two years ago.
