  • Streamwood nurse charged with Medicare fraud Jul 29, 2014 3:39 PM
    A Streamwood woman who managed an in-home health care business is facing several federal Medicare fraud charges. Diana Jocelyn Gumila, 45, is accused of "double-billing" Medicare or billing for services that were unnecessary. Gumila, a registered nurse since 1991, operated Doctor At Home and Xpress Mobile Imaging, both based in Schaumburg. She faces 10 years in prison if convicted.

    Evan Zaloudek, 29, is autistic. Though he is very friendly, he has had problems with speech development and verbalization, said his mother Lorna Zaloudek of Lindenhurst. But in the nine years since he started riding horses at the Partners for Progress barn in Wauconda, she said, Evan’s personality has developed, and his speech has improved. “Since he’s been at the barn, he has just blossomed into this man who talks to anybody and everybody,” Lorna Zaloudek said.

    Cook County is getting more than $4.7 million from the state for construction projects, including new roofs for buildings at area colleges.In a news release, Gov. Pat Quinn’s office says the projects — funded by the governor’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program — include physical education and library buildings at Northeastern Illinois University.

The Daily Herald Business Ledger hosted the expo in an effort to highlight the hospitality industry and inform guests about what the area has to offer. The event, with 60 exhibitors and more than 600 registered attendees, joins two other successful hospitality expos that the Business Ledger holds in the fall.

    More than two decades after the strangling death of a Niles West student, a 71-year-old man was arrested in California in connection with the case, authorities in Illinois said Thursday.     The 1980s pop band Duran Duran is suing a Glenview-based fan club management company, saying it breached its contract by not sending promised revenue to the band. The lawsuit, filed last Friday in Cook County circuit court, says Worldwide Fan Clubs Inc. agreed in 2010 to create and manage the band’s fan club.

  • Elgin teen who accosted woman on trail gets probation Jul 22, 2014 7:13 PM
    A 19-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months probation after admitting to accosting of a woman walking on the Fox River Trail. As part of a plea agreement reached last week, Ulises C. Bibriescas, of the 500 block of Raymond Street, Elgin, also must pay $2,090 in fines and fees. He was arrested on April 25 on misdemeanor charges he slapped the buttocks of a 45-year-old woman from Elgin as she walked along the Fox River Trail in South Elgin.
