Three Chicago teenagers are accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl and posting the attack on Facebook. Prosecutors say 15-year-old Kenneth Brown, Justin Applewhite and Scandale Fritz, both 16, attacked the girl at Fritz' home on Dec. 15.

Illinois cracks down on social media ‘flash mobs’ May 18, 2013 12:00 AM
Illinois toughened penalties Saturday for those who use social media and text messaging to organize violent "flash mobs" like those that have occurred on Chicago's Michigan Avenue and in other tourist areas. Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation doubling the maximum prison term for offenders to six years. The legislation was in direct response to recent incidents in downtown Chicago that left business owners fearful that tourists and other visitors would be scared off.

Scott Feldman pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning and drove in two runs with a big two-out double, helping the Cubs beat the New York Mets 8-2 on Saturday. The Cubs have won five of seven and can win three straight series for the first time with a victory on Sunday. Anthony Rizzo had two hits and his first home run since signing a seven-year contract on Monday.

Damien Brunner and Brendan Smith scored in the second period and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 4-1 Saturday in Game 2 to even their Western Conference semifinal series. It was a strong response by the Red Wings after Chicago handled them easily in the series opener, 4-1. Just as the Blackhawks did in Game 1, Detroit took control in the second period and put the game away in the third.

They glide like magic carpets through their 20,000-gallon pool. When you reach in to stroke them, their gray backs feel softer than velvet. For decades, Chicago's Shedd Aquarium has been home to stingrays. Now, for the first time, visitors can actually touch them. The Shedd's new outdoor hands-on "Stingray Touch" exhibit debuts Friday, May 17. "Stingrays are very friendly, gentle animals," said Elise Waugh, coordinator of communications and public relations for the Shedd Aquarium.

Stingray exhibit opens at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium May 17, 2013 12:00 AM
Visitors to Chicago's Shedd Aquarium will be getting up close and personal with stingrays. The aquarium's "Stingray Touch" exhibit opens Friday. Visitors will be able to feel the skin of about 40 cownose and yellow rays that will be on display. The rays, some with three-foot wide wingspans, will be exhibited in a 20,000-gallon pool on the aquarium's south terrace.
