  • Chicago Archdiocese cool to ice bucket challenge Aug 22, 2014 6:47 AM
    The Archdiocese of Chicago is a little cool on the Ice Bucket Challenge that has recently gone viral on social media and raised millions for the ALS Association. WBBM-Radio reports Archdiocese Schools Superintendent Sister Mary Paul McCaughey has told principals if their schools take part in the challenge the money should go to the John Paul II Medical Research Center. She pointed out the center only uses adult stem cells. Mary Ilene Blondell, development director for Chicago ALS Association development director Mary Ilene Blondell says the archdiocese’s position is disappointing. Blondell says a very small part of ALS Association funding goes to embryonic stem cell research. The ALS Association said it has raised more than $41 million as participants take a bucket of ice water and drench themselves.
