Families and friends gathered on blankets and lawn chairs as they listened to the 70s and 80s tunes covered by local band, Alex and The AllStars, and munched on snacks. Children danced on the lawn and shook tambourines provided by the band.

    The Cary Park District board is considering whether to buy the Chalet Hills Golf Club, a venture that would help the district get a foot into the lucrative banquet industry. The park district bought Foxford Hills golf course in 2004. The park district is always looking within its boundaries to see whether there are new recreation opportunities, and at the moment there are no other spaces in the district for banquet services, park Commissioner Bill Harvey said.

The girls joined almost 70 other young athletes for the Hershey's Track and Field Games, put on by the Cary Park District.

The Cary Area Park District has held the contest for five years inviting young musicians ages 12 to 21 to compete. Musical stylings varied and included pop, rock and metal.
