Authorities say alcohol was a factor in a Fourth of July crash involving a speed boat and a pontoon boat on the Fox River that sent four people to the hospital. The crash remains under investigation, but charges are expected, police said.
Cary apartment building fire cause unknown

The cause of a weekend fire at a Cary apartment building remains unknown, fire officials said Tuesday. It took firefighters about an hour to get the blaze under control in the early hours of Saturday. The fire spread to the first and second floors of the three-story complex at 342 Crystal St. "We believe it started in the area of the second floor furnace room," Cary Fire Protection District Lt. Andy Veath said.

No injuries were reported after a basement fire Wednesday night in Cary, authorities said. Cary firefighters responded to the home on the 300 block of East Sherwood Drive just after 6 p.m., and the fire was extinguished 15 minutes after firefighters arrived, according to the Cary Fire Protection District.
Flooding closes Rawson Bridge Road near Cary

Late night flooding of the Fox River near Cary forced the continued closure of the Rawson Bridge in unincorporated McHenry County near the village. Most of Rawson Bridge Road lies within the Cary Fire Protection District, while the Wauconda Fire Protection District covers a small part of it.
