Carpentersville fire chief retires Feb 8, 2013 12:00 AM
Longtime Carpentersville Fire Chief John Schuldt, who had been on paid leave for nearly two weeks, resigned from the department and announced his retirement Friday, Village Manager J. Mark Rooney said. Schuldt, 53, had been with the fire department for almost 33 years and its chief since 1996. “I cannot entertain what's in the man's mind to retire,” Rooney said.

Longtime Carpentersville Fire Chief John Schuldt has been placed on administrative leave and nobody is saying why. “It’s a personnel matter and I don’t comment on personnel matters,” Village Manager J. Mark Rooney said Friday. “The public has a right to know things but on personnel matters, you’ve got to respect people’s privacy. There’s a time and place to discuss things and this is not the time and the place.”

Carpentersville Fire Dept. supports breast cancer patientsNov 15, 2012 12:00 AM
A fundraiser that the Carpentersville Fire Department recently held to help breast cancer patients at a pair of local hospitals, raised $1,600. The fire department sold pink T-shirts for several days in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign was dubbed "Wear Pink."

A 4-year-old boy playing with a lighter in bed sparked a fire that destroyed a Carpentersville home late Thursday morning. The boy was home with his aunt inside the single-story home on the 200 block of Riverview Drive when the mattress went up in flames about 11:45 a.m., but both escaped with minor injuries.

Fire departments battle brush fire in Carpentersville Jul 10, 2012 12:00 AM
Firefighters from seven departments helped battle a Tuesday afternoon brush fire in Carpentersville's Helm Woods Forest Preserve. The fire burned through a large area of brush, but did not damage any structures or cause any injuries, according to fire officials.

Traditions honored at Elgin firefighter memorial May 12, 2012 12:00 AM
About 50 area residents attended the Elgin Area Firefighters Memorial Service held Saturday at the Elgin Fire Barn #5 Museum. Traditions "define who we were, and who we are," Huntley Fire Chief James Saletta said. Representatives of about a dozen local fire departments attended the ceremony.

With winter officially here, the Carpentersville Fire Department has started an iniative to emphasise winter fire awareness called “Put a Freeze on Winter Fires and Keep the Wreath Red.” When you drive past one of the three fire stations, you’ll see a wreath with red light bulbs in it. Every time there’s a holiday-related a fire, personnel will replace a red bulb with a white bulb.

Carpentersville Fire Chief John Schuldt is going to jail. But it won’t be your typical jail; this one’s at Nick’s Pizzeria and Pub in Elgin. Schuldt will have an hour to raise money at the restaurant on Sept. 28 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He hopes to send affected kids to camp in 2012.

Authorities at the Carpentersville Fire Department are looking for past firefighters to attend the dedication service of the department’s 9/11 memorial. The department will hold its ceremony at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 at 213 Spring St. An open house follows at the fire station. The memorial is dedicated to firefighters who served Carpentersville throughout the 96 years of the department’s existence and to the people who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
