  COD, faculty reach tentative contract deal May 26, 2012 12:00 AM
  Negotiating teams for the College of DuPage and the school's faculty association have reached a tentative contract agreement — just days before a contract imposed by COD's board of trustees was set to take effect. The deal was struck just after midnight Saturday — the result of bargaining sessions on Thursday and Friday that lasted a combined 25 hours, said Faculty Association President Glenn Hansen.

Bartlett senior Tori Burke used her riseball to her advantage as she struck out 13 Glenbard West hitters Saturday in Bartlett's 2-0 win in the championship game of the Class 4A Bartlett regional.

Among the brightest hopes to win state titles in Class 3A are Elgin's 800-meter relay team and Cary-Grove senior thrower Josh Freeman. Elgin seniors Terrell Campbell, Devante King, Derek Moorman and Dennis Moore will attempt to win the first state track title for their school since Tony Adams won back-to-back 440-yard dash titles in 1978 and 1979, according to IHSA records. The foursome set the school record in the 800-meter relay at the St. Charles North sectional (1:27.83).
  

   

• Fourth Carol Stream house to be razed for flood relief May 23, 2012 12:00 AM
  Carol Stream, with the help of a state grant, is planning to purchase a fourth house in a flood-prone neighborhood as part of a voluntary buyout program. The village had been seeking federal and state funds to purchase the house, located in the neighborhood south of Armstrong Park, following major flooding in 2008.
