    More than 30 members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva are using their knitting and crocheting skills to make a difference in the world. The church’s Commit to Knit group creates one-of-a-kind handcrafted items — scarves, shawls, baby blankets, clothing, dolls and more — which are donated to women and children in need locally and globally.

  • Elgin food challenge collects $30,000 to fight hunger Mar 11, 2015 8:33 PM
    Twenty-two Elgin and Burlington area schools and their corporate partners raised nearly $30,000 for Food for Greater Elgin's Change for Hunger Challenge. The money could feed one person for 39,879 days or provide carts of food for 1,495 families of four. “It's been phenomenal,” said Michelle Frampton, director of community outreach for Food for Greater Elgin.

Malloy, recognizing the need for God’s grace and forgiveness in the lives of Catholics, has again asked the 105 parishes in the 11-county diocese to add Wednesday, March 25, to their regular Lenten confession calendar and, where possible, to offer confessions that day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cherie Aschenbrenner, the elderly service officer of the Elgin Police Department, and Lt. Kevin Williams of the Kane County Sheriff’s Department will give a PowerPoint presentation and discuss why seniors are targets.

     
  • Local sixth-grader wins state hoops championship Mar 9, 2015 7:40 PM
    The Elgin Elks Lodge 737 honored Illinois State Hoop Shoot Champion Kyle Skores at their annual awards banquet March 3. Kyle won the state championship for 12- to 13-year-old boys, after making five out of five free throws in a shootout in Decatur, Ill. He now advances to the Regional Hoop Shoot contest in Iowa City, Iowa, on March 21.

As an organization of service and community minded individuals, Kiwanis International supports children and young adults around the world.
