  • Glenbard West takes title on new Kaneland course Sep 20, 2014 4:20 PM
    Glenbard West won the title Saturday at Kaneland’s annual Larry Eddington Invitational, a championship that might not have happened without a couple friendly Kaneland officials. Kaneland moved the meet from its traditional home at Elburn Woods to the Knights’ high school campus. The Knights are hosting a Class 2A sectional this fall and wanted to test out their course. Glenbard West pulled up Saturday as it has in years past to Elburn Woods — only to get a sinking feeling when there wasn’t another soul around.

    The Burlington Central Rockets shot out to a 32-7 lead on 5 rushing touchdowns in the first half against the Harvard Hornets, and then coasted to a 39-20 Big Northern East win in Harvard Friday night.

    Crystal Lake South linebacker Alex “Bubba” Gardeck thought he had the wind knocked out of him. Turns out he actually had the wind knocked into him. Gardeck suffered an unusual football injury on Saturday when he tore a hole in his trachea at some point during the first half of CL South’s 23-13 loss at Bloom Township.

    Kate Lillie is one of those golfers who doesn’t mind bad weather.So Monday was just what the doctor ordered for the St. Charles North sophomore. Lillie shot a 1-under par 34 to win the individual title and lead the North Stars to their second-straight team championship of the South Elgin Invitational at the cold and damp Elgin Country Club.

  • Burlington Central grabs first win Sep 12, 2014 11:09 PM
    The Burlington Central Rockets probably didn’t notice the cold that much. They picked up their first win of the year by beating previously undefeated North Boone, 29-0, on cold, rainy Rocket Hill Friday night. Trevor Davison and Jason Berango each rushed for more than 100 yards and scored 2 touchdowns and the Rocket defense was dominant in the Big Northern East opener for both teams.

Radtke, the Daily Herald’s Fox Valley coordinator and prep sports online manager, has joined an exclusive group by being selected to receive the Distinguished Media Service Award from the Illinois High School Association.
