    Firefighters from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District this week are using the former Lakemoor village hall for fire training in advance of its demolition. Prominently situated along Route 120 across from Lily Lake, the building was the original headquarters for a volunteer department. “This building started its life as a firehouse and is ending its life training the firefighters from the same district,” said Deputy Chief Rudy Horist.

  • Former McHenry County mentor receives 5-year sentence Oct 18, 2013 5:49 PM
    A former McHenry County Boys and Girls Club mentor was sentenced to five years in prison Friday for sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy in 2009. Leonard Puccini, 53, of Bull Valley, was found guilty in a bench trial in mid-May 2013 and faced up to seven years in prison. He met the victim through the Big Brother/Big Sister program.

    West Dundee officials invited a honeybee expert to explain and dispel myths about the insects this week, but it wasn't enough to convince some trustees that the village should become honeybee friendly.Trustees Daniel Wilbrandt and Michelle Kembitzky said they cannot support a proposal to legalize honeybee keeping.

The collaboration between the McHenry County Division of Transportation and TranSystems Corporation and Curran Contracting Company is one for awards and professional journals — both highway engineering and environmental.

    Huntley High School special education student Tess Podraza, 18, wants to be more independent, but to reach that level she’ll need more confidence and sharper life skills. She and her family hope a new program through Huntley Area School District 158 will give her both. Life Instruction Guiding Huntley Transition is designed to give Tess and her peers support and preparation for the adult world.
