Waubonsee Community College is selling its former downtown Aurora campus for $1.5 million to a firm interested in turning the two buildings into stores and apartments. The college board approved the sale Wednesday night to Gorman and Co. It expects to close the sale in January.

Suburban education officials are worried looming federal changes to GED testing will leave those less fortunate with one less path to joining the workforce. The test will become computerized in 2014, and the price to take the exam will more than double. Plus, you need a credit card and an email address. Consistent with a regional trend among community colleges, Harper College will ask its students to dig a little deeper into their pockets for the cost of a high education. The board of trustees last week unanimously approved increasing tuition by $2 per credit hour beginning in the summer 2013 term. For a full-time student taking 30 credit hours annually, that’s an additional $60 for a total of $3,735.
