Island Lake trustee ends controversial blog May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
Island lake Trustee Laurie Rabattini's blog has been a source of news, opinion and controversy since before she joined the board in 2009. She and her electronic followers used the forum to talk about the issues facing the village, to criticize Mayor Debbie Herrmann and other village officials and to promote various political agendas. However, that source of information has gone dark.

Rolling Meadows Mayor Tom Rooney said Friday he has nominated Jim Allen to fill the vacant 2nd Ward seat on the city council. Allen is Rooney’s second attempt at filling the seat left vacant by Alderman Barb Lusk’s resignation April 15.

Letter: Last fall, I announced I would not be seeking re-election as Streamwood village trustee in 2011. It was not an easy decision as public service means a great deal to me. I have long said I am not a career politician, but a businessman who will draw upon my experience to help our village tighten its belt and become a more open, transparent unit of government.

The Village of Hoffman Estates will host an official installation ceremony for recently elected village trustees at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 30 at the Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road. Trustees taking the oath office are Gary Pilafas, Anna Newell and Gary Stanton. During the April 5 election, residents voted to re-elect Trustee Gary Pilafas and Trustee Anna Newell, and elected Trustee Gary Stanton to his first full term in office.

Now that Paul Humpfer and Doug Marks have won election to Carpentersville trustee, the duo that ran together is making plans to float an ordinance that would place future fee and tax increases on the ballot for voter approval — something that is not required at the moment, as Carpentersville is a home-rule community.
