COD, faculty reach tentative contract deal May 26, 2012 12:00 AM
Negotiating teams for the College of DuPage and the school's faculty association have reached a tentative contract agreement — just days before a contract imposed by COD's board of trustees was set to take effect. The deal was struck just after midnight Saturday — the result of bargaining sessions on Thursday and Friday that lasted a combined 25 hours, said Faculty Association President Glenn Hansen.

There have been very few rough outings this year for Bartlett righthander Colin Nowak, but one of them came during the regular season against Lake Park.The Hawks junior more than made up for that in Saturday's Lake Park regional championship, striking out 14 Lancers without a walk and defeating the hosts 5-3 for the baseball program's first regional title in 10 years.

A sixth-grader who died after being struck by an all-terrain vehicle in Bartlett was being remembered Friday for his "big eyes and beautiful smile." Samuel Sloan, 11, was pronounced dead at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, more than three hours after the accident on the 800 block of West Appletree Lane.

Artificial turf will be installed at football fields at Glenbard South and East this summer, ready for the start of the new school year in August. Those are the two final schools to get new turf since Glenbard High School District 87 started a turf replacement program at Glenbard North in 2009, followed by Memorial Field at Glenbard West in 2010.

When Lake Park began its current streak of four straight regional championships in 2009, the Geneva boys volleyball program did not yet exist. The champions of Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division (Lancers) and River (Vikings, shared with St. Charles East) met Wednesday night with the Larkin regional championship on the line. Lake Park and its tradition had a little too much firepower for the new kids on the block in a 25-13, 23-25, 25-17 victory.
