The Wheaton United girls lacrosse team made a little history recently.Wheaton went 5-0 in DuPage-Upstate Eight Conference play to win the programs first league title in its seven-year existence. Powerful reasons for having Benet’s McGuire in the leadoff spot May 14, 2012 12:00 AM
Benet coach Jerry Schilf worried how ready his team was for a doubleheader last Saturday, with good reason. Prom lasted late the night before. A rain-soaked field delayed first pitch an hour. Maeve McGuire put those anxieties to bed. McGuire homered leading off both ends of the doubleheader, and Benet swept Joliet Catholic to maintain its 1-game lead over Marian Catholic in the East Suburban Catholic Conference race. McGuire ran the count full leading off Game 1, then unloaded on a mammoth shot into the wind over the fence in right. Next game, same thing, this time to straight center for McGuires area-leading 14th homer. "It just set the tone, Schilf said.

Benet’s doubles come through against Carmel May 3, 2012 12:00 AM
Benet roared back from a 2-0 deficit to sweep all three flights of doubles and defeat visiting Carmel in boys tennis Thursday afternoon in Lisle. After the freshman duo of Brandon Dechter and Kevin Hunt began the East Suburban Catholic Conference dual with straight-set victories at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, the Redwings top two doubles teams won three-set matches. That set up some heroics from Alex Romano-Stephen Konrad, who needed little time to settle the outcome in cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. The 3-2 victory gives the Redwings a perfect 8-0 record in ESCC play, while the Corsairs drop to 5-2 with one league match left in the regular season, Marist next Monday at home.
