Bears release wide receiver Johnny Knox Feb 12, 2013 12:00 AM
In the strongest indication yet that wide receiver Johnny Knox' football career is over, the Bears terminated his contract on Tuesday. It's been well over a year since the 26-year-old Knox absorbed a gruesome hit from Seahawks defensive end Anthony Hargrove on Dec. 18, 2011. The tackle bent the spindly Knox backward at the waist, causing structural, ligament and nerve damage in his back and necessitating spinal fusion surgery.

Why Bears ticket prices are out of boundsFeb 8, 2013 12:00 AM
The Chicago Bears are very consistent about one thing: raising ticket prices. They can't seem to get anything else right on a regular basis, but they do know about ticket increases. Mike North thinks Joe Flacco is a top three quarterbac, and he and can't figure out why others don't think so. What else doe Flacco have to do to make people believers?

Hester just another part of Bears' culture change Feb 4, 2013 12:00 AM
Devin Hester indicated in a published report over the weekend that he needs a fresh start away from Chicago. OK, see ya! Seriously, does Hester really think he has any leverage in this matter? Come to think of it, maybe he does. The Bears might as well send him to, say, Jacksonville for all the good he has done them in recent years. So, yeah, see ya!

What comes now for NFL after tumultuous season? Feb 3, 2013 12:00 AM
The Super Bowl closes a tumultuous year for the NFL. A pay-for-pain bounty scandal. A lockout of officials resolved only after a ludicrous game-ending call. Zero minority hires for 15 coach or general manager openings. ( Just to name a few.) And yet the league is as popular as ever. Uncertain, though, is what the future holds for an NFL still coming to grips with the dangers of a brutal sport that makes it tremendously wealthy.

Five keys to who wins Super Bowl XLVIIFeb 2, 2013 12:00 AM
Point spreads and divine intervention won't affect the outcome of Super Bowl XLVII, but there are several other factors that could play an important role when the Ravens and 49ers meet at the Louisiana Superdome. Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick has a major-league fastball and shocking accuracy. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco throws arguably the best deep ball in the NFL. But neither team will win without getting it done on the ground. San Francisco's offensive line is widely considered the top run-blocking unit in the NFL, and the 49ers averaged 37 more rushing yards (155.7) per game in the regular season than the Ravens. In the postseason, the Niners have been even better, rushing for 472 yards in two games. Kaepernick ran for a record-setting 181 vs. the Green Bay Packers, and the late-season emergence of rookie LaMichael James gives San Francisco two dangerous options behind bell cow Frank Gore.

49ers, Ravens invest more in O-Line than Bears Jan 30, 2013 12:00 AM
Maybe the biggest difference between the Bears and this year's Super Bowl combatants is that the 49ers and Ravens have made a commitment to drafting offensive linemen early and often, while the Bears have not.

Niners’ Harbaugh destined to be brash Jan 30, 2013 12:00 AM
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh didn't seem to be brash when he was a Bears quarterback for seven seasons. But maybe we should have seen it coming.

President Obama is a big football fan but told The New Republic that if he had a son he would have to consider not letting him play this vicious game. "It'll be a little less competition for Jack Harbaugh when he gets older," cracked 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh on Monday, referring to his 4-month old son.

Bears bring Harris back to coach Jan 28, 2013 12:00 AM
Chris Harris is back with the Bears for a third stint, but this time it's as a defensive quality control coach, not a player. Harris, 30, was drafted by the Bears in the sixth round in 2005 and had two tours of duty in Chicago, where he spent four of his eight NFL seasons.

After Raiders, Bears tranquility for Trestman Jan 22, 2013 12:00 AM
Marc Trestman’s days with the Oakland Raiders likely prepared him for anything the Halas Hall culture might throw at him. Really, anything. A decade ago Trestman worked for the Raiders owned by Al Davis. It’s sounding more and more that nothing the Bears do could be as wacky as that experience.
