Donors Needed to Assist Impoverished Senior Citizens

The Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) of DuPage County is seeking members of the community to participate as donors in their "Secret Pal" program for low-income seniors. There are currently 9 low-income seniors in need of a Secret Pal donor. Secret pal donors provide necessities, or other gifts, to enhance the well-being of seniors living under the burden of poverty. Secret pal gifts are delivered to the seniors along with 100 lbs. of nutritious groceries which they receive from HSP each month. The Secret Pal program not only provides seniors with items to make their lives easier, but the knowledge that they are loved and cared for. One senior said of her secret pal, "I'm really so grateful for all your kindness to me. You always help me with my needs, and have been a blessing in my life."

Soprano Laura Wilde, a member of the Chicago Lyric Opera's Ryan Opera Center, will be featured in the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's season finale concerts April 30 and May 1, performing in Bernstein's Symphony No. 1, "Jeremiah," and Mahler's Symphony No. 4, led by Music Director Andrew Grams.
