The semiannual D2 campaign contributions report filed by Batavians Against Debt indicates the committee received $50,539.47 in itemized contributions -- all from one source.

    The Rotary Club of Batavia has announced the winners of the 22nd annual Corvette Raffle. The first prize, a 2011 Corvette convertible, went to Doug Warlick, Geneva. The second prize of $1,500 went to Sam Winzler, Moses Lake, Wash.; third prize of $1,000 to Bob Hubbard of Batavia.

    I just want to comment on the $20 million Batavia Recreation Center initiative that failed miserably. In the Nov. 3 Daily Herald, Batavia Park District President Patrick Callahan said, referring to why the referendum failed, “I think people have a massive mistrust of government.”

  • Batavia's Quarry Beach proposals not ready Nov 17, 2010 1:35 PM
    A plan to fix the leak at Harold Hall Quarry Beach before next summer's season has hit a slight bump. The Batavia Park District has solicited proposals from three consultants to analyze how the quarry is losing water, but one written proposal was not completed before the park board's Tuesday night meeting. The board is expected to choose one of the firms at its Dec. 21 meeting.

    Batavia’s Books Between Bites welcomes Batavia’s Mayor Jeff Schielke to its program at noon Thursday, Nov. 18, at Batavia Public Library. The mayor will continue sharing his discoveries in literature, both new and old, which feature Batavia and Batavians. A special feature this year is a more detailed discussion of the appearances of the legendary Oke G. Pamp. The tall, Swedish, “Bohemian Batavian” was a champion of barbed letters to the editor.
