    After his team’s loss to Oak Park on Saturday, new Schaumburg coach Marty Manning said that he would prefer his team to stay away from Saturday games in the future. “We just didn’t have much energy Saturday,” Manning said before his team tipped off against Prospect on Tuesday night. “It’s tough playing back-to-back nights. I never liked it when I played. We will get to a Tuesday-Friday schedule next season because that’s what you play in the state playoffs and I want our kids ready for that.” Schaumburg seemed plenty ready Tuesday. They forced turnovers at the beginning and down the stretch to post a 47-40 victory over the Knights.

    Good things happened in threes in Fremd’s 47-40 win over Hersey in Palatine on Tuesday night in a Mid-Suburban boys basketball crossover. Sophomore Brian Dompke emerged as a legitimate scorer as he led both teams with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Secondly, the game marked the return of 6-foot-7 junior Patrick Benka, who had missed the Vikings’ first eight games with a lower body injury. Finally, a key 3-point basket by sophomore guard Kyle Sliwa off of a rebound and assist by Dompke gave Fremd (8-1) a 41-29 lead with 5:57 left in the game.

    Burlington Central’s student section was dead silent, besides a few squeaks and gasps, for the first 6 minutes of Tuesday night’s boys basketball game against Richmond-Burton. That’s how long it took the Rockets to score 10 points and the crowd to erupt in a tradition known as Silent Night. Their jubilation was short-lived, however, as Richmond-Burton went up by 9 at the half and Burlington Central could not hit its shots in a 61-48 Big Northern East loss at Rocket Hill.
