    All 3 challengers win Bartlett library board race Apr 9, 2013 12:00 AM
    The three challengers appear to have defeated the lone incumbent in the Bartlett Public Library District board race. With all seven precincts reporting, unofficial results show newcomers Ed Novak and Dave Barry led the way with 897 votes and 831 votes, respectively. Francine Byron held onto the third and final spot with 394 votes, edging out two-term incumbent Thomas Perkins.

    Out of the four candidates running for Bartlett Public Library District trustee, Francine Byron was the only one who did not speak at a candidate forum hosted by the Bartlett Woman's Club on Thursday. Byron said in an email Friday that she "had not received an invitation to speak." She said she attended the event and was surprised to see the other candidates speaking. She later found an email in her spam folder dated March 13 from a member of the woman's club regarding the event.

    An objection has been filed challenging the candidacy of Ed Novak for trustee of the Bartlett Public Library District. Patricia Hanson, who is running for a seat on the Bartlett Fire Protection District board of trustees, filed the objection. She believes 14 of the 66 people who signed Novak's petition to be on the ballot are not residents of the library district.

    A Glenbard North High School graduate who grew up near Carol Stream will become the new director of the Carol Stream Public Library, officials announced Thursday. Susan Westgate, 52, the current assistant director of the Bartlett Public Library, will begin her new role in Carol Stream Jan. 28, 2013. In job interviews with the library board and management, she says both groups expressed their desire for her to help change the negative perception some in the community may have of the library. "They just want to kind of change when people say, Carol Stream Public Library' — they're gonna have a good feeling about it and not be thinking about the things they read in the paper."
