    The Burlington Central girls’ track team is the midst of an important part of its schedule. The Rockets recently won their own Rocket Relays event and will compete in the annual Kane County meet Friday at Kaneland.

    St. Edward 6, Marian Central 0: Lindsay Zdroik (6-6) threw a 4-hitter with 8 strikeouts and no walks and went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Green Wave (9-8, 4-4) to a Suburban Christian Blue win. Kelly Theriault (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Allison Stratman (2-for-3, RBI) also contributed for St. Edward. Westminster sweeps: Rachel Fugiel was 2-for-4 with a triple, home run and 2 RBI in Game 1 as Westminster Christian swept a pair of five-inning Northeastern Athletic Conference games, 11-4 and 13-2. Maddie King (2B) and Jackie Calabrese each went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI in Game 1 and Becca Fugiel threw a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks. In Game 2, Rachel Fugiel threw a 2-hitter and went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI, while Calabrese was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Leadoff hitter Emma Kovachevich went 5-for-8 in the two games for the Warriors (5-7-1, 5-1).

    The Bartlett baseball team will have to face Michigan-bound pitcher Ryan Nutof at some point during the upcoming 3-game series with rival South Elgin, but Storm coach Jim Kating didn’t tip his hand Wednesday as to when.

    The wind was blowing out, but the cold weather made it a game fit for a pitchers’ duel when Bartlett hosted rival South Elgin in an Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division softball game on Wednesday. Holly Pagan tossed a 2-hitter for the Hawks and the Storm’s Karli Dobler did a masterful job pitching out of jams, but Bartlett’s 12-hit attack capped by a 3-run home run by Katie Fornoff in the sixth inning gave the hosts a 4-1 victory.

    The Metea Valley girls soccer team is now one win away from clinching at least a share of its second Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division title in four seasons.A dominant offensive performance led to a 26-2 advantage in total shots resulting in a 4-0 Mustangs’ victory over Bartlett on Tuesday night at Millennium Field in Streamwood. Metea Valley (10-1-2, 4-0-1) concludes its conference schedule next Tuesday at East Aurora.

    The VEX Robotics World Championship last weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center in Rockwall, Texas, drew more than 15,000 participants from 27 countries on 760 of the world’s best student-run robotics teams.

    Huntley senior Angela Tribuzio had her batting eye seeing 20-20 Saturday against two of the top teams in the Daily Herald area. Tribuzio belted a home run in each of the Red Raiders’ wins at the Libertyville quad, a 9-7 win over No. 1 Libertyville, and a 10-1 drubbing of No. 10 Wauconda and sophomore phenom pitcher Kayla Wedl.

    Crystal Lake South wins tournament: In a game where 12 different players scored a goal, the Gators (9-2-2) clinched the title of champion at the Prairie Ridge Tournament with a 3-0 win over the hosts and a 12-0 win over Proviso East.

  • Bartlett trending well after 4-0 week Apr 25, 2014 9:06 PM
    It had already been quite a week for the Bartlett softball team with earlier wins over Batavia, West Chicago, and Elgin. On Friday the Hawks put the icing on the cake by handing Neuqua Valley its first loss in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division, defeating the visiting Wildcats 4-2.

    You know the spring season is coming into the home stretch when county track meets begin, which they did on Thursday night in Huntley with the first of two days of the McHenry County boys and girls meets. You also know it’s time to think about the stretch run of the school year when Larkin’s annual Slugfest softball tournament is played, which it will be on Saturday at the Elgin Sports Complex.

    Hampshire 3, Larkin 1: Trey Schramm went 3-for-3 and Michael Merchut 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Whip-Purs (5-9) to a nonconference win. RJ Consigny had a double for Hampshire and Brandon Bowen drove in a run. Kyle Rutkowski was the complete-game winner, allowing just 4 hits and no earned runs. For Larkin (5-9), Rob Bond had a double and Tyler Kalusa an RBI. Brayden Royse was the losing pitcher. Cary-Grove 22, Woodstock North 6: Eric Keniuk went 4-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI to lead Cary-Grove’s 20-hit attack in this Fox Valley Conference win. Jason Barrett (2B, 3 RBI), Jack Starr (RBI), Willie Hartke (2B, 4 RBI), Larkin Hanselmann (RBI) and George Hartke each added 2 hits for the Trojans (9-8, 4-3). Connor Leach picked up the win with 4 innings of relief. Burlington Central 2, Jacobs 1: Ryan Gannon’s 2-run double in the sixth inning lifted the Rockets (9-4) to a nonconference win. Tanner Smith and Bryan Cynova added 2 hits each for BC. Kevin Jerger picked up the win and Johnny Frederickson the save. Ben Murray was 3-for-3 for Jacobs (13-6). Ryan George had a double and Kyle Wolinski drove in the Golden Eagles’ run. Ryan Dubs was the losing pitcher. West Chicago 6, Bartlett 5: Cory Krolikowski (3 RBI), Jake Barrutia (2B) and Jordan Flint (2B, 2 RBI) each had 2 hits for Bartlett (4-8, 3-6) in this Upstate Eight Valley loss. Alex Curits was the losing pitcher.
