Full circle for Bianchina, Geneva at Hoffman Estates May 17, 2013 12:00 AM
Senior Mike Bianchina served as an alternate runner for Geneva when it won its last boys track and field sectional title in 2010.Three years later in the Hoffman Estates Class 3A sectional, Bianchina helped the Vikings to their second title in four years.Despite finishing tied for sixth out of 14 teams at the Upstate Conference tourney last week, Geneva rose to the occasion on Friday night and scored 103 points to top runner-up Schaumburg (88) and St. Charles North (80)."I always thought about it (going out with a sectional title after being part of one as a freshman)," Bianchina said. "This was a great night for the entire team."

Huntley primed for another big night May 16, 2013 12:00 AM
Huntley boys track coach Jim Rolando has said his team's success this season has boiled down to teamwork. That theory is backed up by the Red Raiders winning both the McHenry County and Fox Valley Conference titles. Huntley looks to add to its string of success Friday at its own Class 3A sectional, where berths in next weekend's state finals in Charleston will be on the line.

Three days after winning at Bartlett, the No. 12 Warriors are in the driver's seat in the Upstate Eight Valley after a 5-3 victory over the No. 14 Hawks on Tuesday in Aurora.

Hohman, Waubonsie Valley shut down Bartlett May 11, 2013 12:00 AM
It's not very often a team starts a day with a lead in a game, but it worked to the advantage of Waubonsie Valley and sophomore ace Shannon Hohman. Leading Bartlett 1-0 with one out and a runner on first base in the bottom of the first inning when the rain-suspended game resumed on Saturday at Bartlett, Hohman and the Warriors got the final two outs of that inning. the right-hander settled into a groove, her team added 3 more runs and just like that there's another tie for the lead in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division softball race. Waubonsie's 4-0 win over the Hawks technically puts the Warriors in first with a 13-3 league record. Bartlett is 11-3, Lake Park 12-4, Neuqua Valley 11-5 and South Elgin 10-5 heading into what promises to be a riveting final week of the regular season.
