  • Crash during Streamwood ‘downpour’ sends 2 to hospital Oct 14, 2014 8:40 AM
    A crash during a “downpour” Monday night in Streamwood sent two people to the hospital and delayed traffic at Irving Park Road and Route 59, authorities said. Lt. Steve Laker with the Streamwood Fire Department said two vans struck each other in “almost a head-on collision” about 7:30 p.m. in the middle of the intersection on Streamwood’s west side.

    No charges have been filed against a 25-year-old Naperville man whose “bizarre” statements prompted a nearly five-hour standoff at a pasta manufacturing plant in Bartlett. Police said the unidentified man remains in police custody but will be taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

    One firefighter was injured by falling debris while battling a Bartlett house fire Sunday afternoon and had to be transported to Central DuPage Hospital. Officials at the Bartlett Fire Protection District did not release the name of the firefighter, nor any further information on his or her condition.

    With 19 of 19 Cook County precincts reporting and all 21 DuPage County precincts reporting, voters appear to have chosen incumbent Jim McCarthy and newcomer Jay Langfelder as Bartlett Fire Protection District trustees. Unofficial results show McCarthy with 4,058 votes, followed by Langfelder with 3,700 votes. Patti Hanson received 1,189 votes.

    None of the candidates running for a Bartlett Fire Protection District trustee seat have major concerns with how the board is operating, but they don't all agree on how and where improvements can be made. Incumbent Jim McCarthy and challengers Patti Hanson and Jay Langfelder are vying for two 6-year terms. Both seats up in the April 9 election represent DuPage County, though the entire fire district votes.

     
  • Bartlett Fire District planning $2.4 million station renovation Mar 9, 2013 8:00 AM
    Work could begin as early as May on an estimated $2.4 million renovation to Bartlett's Fire Station 2. When the station opened in 1985 it was used by two or three first responders who were coming from home and not sleeping at the station. Now, it houses five to six full-time firefighters, along with a fire engine and an ambulance. "It was built for a different use," said Chief Michael Falese. "Every single room has some deficiencies."

    No one was injured when a car caught fire Tuesday night in an attached garage in Bartlett. Authorities estimated $120,000 in damage and said the house is uninhabitable. The cause is under investigation.

    Bartlett Fire Protection District Chief Michael Falese has been named the new president of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Associationa. Falese is a five-year member of the association, in which he previously served as director and vice president. He will lead the association as president for one year.

  • 2 injured, 2 homes damaged in Bartlett Sep 2, 2012 8:25 PM
    A fire in the 400 block of Harbor Terrace in Bartlett early Sunday seriously damaged two homes and sent two people to the hospital, fire officials reported. The residents of one home were awakened by a loud noise just before 3:30 a.m. and discovered the contents of their attached garage was on fire.
