  • Elgin man loses arm after accident at Bartlett pasta plant Mar 29, 2015 9:46 PM
    A 25-year-old Elgin man had to have his left arm amputated after it was caught in an industrial mixing machine at a pasta manufacturing plant in Bartlett on Friday, officials said. According to Batalian Chief Dave Misner of the Bartlett Fire Protection District, first responders worked along with staff members at Rana Meal Solutions LLC, located at 550 S. Spitzer Road, for 45 minutes to take apart the machine that the man’s arm was trapped in.

    A crash during a “downpour” Monday night in Streamwood sent two people to the hospital and delayed traffic at Irving Park Road and Route 59, authorities said. Lt. Steve Laker with the Streamwood Fire Department said two vans struck each other in “almost a head-on collision” about 7:30 p.m. in the middle of the intersection on Streamwood’s west side.

    No charges have been filed against a 25-year-old Naperville man whose “bizarre” statements prompted a nearly five-hour standoff at a pasta manufacturing plant in Bartlett. Police said the unidentified man remains in police custody but will be taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

    Work could begin as early as May on an estimated $2.4 million renovation to Bartlett's Fire Station 2. When the station opened in 1985 it was used by two or three first responders who were coming from home and not sleeping at the station. Now, it houses five to six full-time firefighters, along with a fire engine and an ambulance. "It was built for a different use," said Chief Michael Falese. "Every single room has some deficiencies."

    A fire in the 400 block of Harbor Terrace in Bartlett early Sunday seriously damaged two homes and sent two people to the hospital, fire officials reported. The residents of one home were awakened by a loud noise just before 3:30 a.m. and discovered the contents of their attached garage was on fire.
