Yet, the four-member staff of Township Officials of Illinois receives public pensions — a fact that riles some suburban state and township leaders, and even some on the organization's own board of directors.

North Barrington, BACOG oppose mall plan Mar 1, 2012 12:00 AM
Both North Barrington and the entire Barrington Area Council of Governments this week formalized their opposition to a renewed proposal for a major shopping center at Rand and Old McHenry roads. Hawthorn Woods, which lies on the east side of the unincorporated 109 acres, passed its own resolution against the proposal in early February.

Barrington Hills agrees to house BACOG Feb 24, 2012 12:00 AM
The Barrington Hills village board voted 6-1 this week in favor of a $1 per year lease for the Barrington Area Council of Governments to move its offices into village hall. The nine-member BACOG board is expected to accept the lease at its meeting next Tuesday.

South Barrington officials Thursday elected to remain a member of the Barrington Area Council of Governments after being serenaded with significant budget cuts agreed to by the other eight members. “I think we’ve got a good compromise,” South Barrington Village President Frank Munao said. “I see this whole next year as a trial.”

The Barrington Area Council of Governments has slashed its proposed annual budget by 25 percent in an effort to make continued involvement attractive to it members, particularly South Barrington. One of the ways of doing that was to take up Barrington Hills Village President Robert Abboud’s offer to house the council’s administrative offices at his village hall.

South Barrington officials Thursday will consider leaving the 41-year-old organization that has largely defined Barrington area since its inception. Village President Frank Munao said he will ask village trustees to vote on his proposal to withdraw from the Barrington Area Council of Governments, a move that would save about $36,000.

An investigation of insurance costs for 50 suburban townships showed 29 offered health care coverage at no charge to elected officers who held full-time positions like supervisor, assessor and highway commissioner.
